Toyota Motor Corporation Produces And Sells A Record Number Of Cars
Toyota Motor Corporation, consisting of Toyota, Lexus, Daihatsu, and Hino, has never before built as many cars as it produced in the period from April to September. In that period, the brands together sold 5,596,183 cars, 8.3 percent more than in the same period of 2022. Of these, 5,172,387 were Toyota or Lexus, 9.1 percent more than in the same period last year. Daihatsu from April to September: 358,283 cars (+1.7 percent). From April to September, Toyota Motor Corporation produced nearly 5.79 million cars (+10.1 percent). That is also a record. Toyota and Lexus are the only brands in the group that built more cars in that period than a year earlier (+12.3 percent).
If we look at the figures from January to September, i.e., the first three quarters of this year, Toyota Motor Corporation has sold more than 8.26 million cars. That was 6.5 percent more than last year, but not enough for a record. Of those 8.26 million cars, 7.57 million were Toyota or Lexus (+6.7 percent).
Toyota and Lexus have sold 76,457 electric cars worldwide so far this year, in the period January-September. That means that one percent of all cars sold by Toyota and Lexus in the past nine months were EVs. The share of cars with a hybrid drivetrain was, of course, considerably higher in that period, at 32 percent (2.48 million). The share of plug-ins during this period was 1.22 percent. Between January and September, Toyota sold 3,456 cars (Mirai) with a fuel cell on board.
In Europe, Toyota and Lexus sold 542,800 cars from April to September, 7 percent more than in the same period last year. Also in North America (1,252,658 units, +9.4 percent), Central and South America (247,324 units, +2.6 percent), and Asia (1,688,487 units, +0.4 percent) achieved growth figures during this period. In their home country, Japan (not included under the heading Asia), Toyota and Lexus sold 33.8 percent more cars (790,168 units).
