Toyota Renews C-HR For A Second Generation And Its Fully Hybrid With Radical Looks

Meet the all-new Toyota C-HR. It has been specially developed for the European market and looks at least as daring as its predecessor. It will be available with three electrified powertrains. Two of them are hybrids and for the first time, the Toyota C-HR is also available as a plug-in hybrid.

Visually, Toyota hasn’t strayed far from the Prologue Concept seen last year, sporting slim C-shaped headlights that blend in with the black trim on the lower half of the bumper. The angular design theme can be seen along the side of the vehicle, where you’ll find the flush door handles – a first for a Toyota product.

The bi-tone paintwork pictured here is arguably the most eye-catching aspect of the car, with the roof, tailgate, rear fascia, rear fenders, and side skirts finished in a contrasting black hue. Additionally, customers can option wheels as big as 20 inches.

Step inside the cabin with its 2640 mm (104 in) wheelbase and you’ll notice a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster joined by a touchscreen of the same size. Fancier versions also get a head-up display, 64-color ambient lighting, a panoramic roof, and a JBL sound system. Unlike other brands, Toyota is not ready to give up on buttons for often-used functions, even though screens keep getting bigger with each generation of a new car. Red accents and a GR badge belong to a new GR Sport Premiere Edition with sporty touches inside and out.

The new C-HR will come with three powertrain options, and all are hybrids. A front-wheel-drive-only hybrid with a 1.8-liter 140 hp gas engine will sit at the bottom of the lineup, with a more powerful 2.0-liter 198 hp hybrid setup offering either front- or all-wheel drive. A new plug-in-hybrid configuration, also with the 2.0-liter gas engine, sits at the top. This variant produces a stunning 223 hp.
