US-Chinese Automaker, Silk-FAW, To Build Electric Sports Cars In Italy

Silk-FAW confirm plans to invest more than $1.02 billion to build R&D center, Head Quarters and factory in Italy.

It picked the city of Reggio Emilia in Italy to build its facility, an area known as Italy’s “Motor Valley”.

“Motor Valley” is home to brands like Ferrari, Maserati, Pagani, Lamborghini and motorcycle manufacturer, Ducati.

Silk-FAW plans to produce electric and hybrid luxury hypercars in China and in Italy under the Hongqi brand.





Its first model, the plug-in hybrid Hongqi S9, was unveiled in April 2021 at the Shanghai Auto Show.

The S9 is dubbed as China’s answer for hypercars from brands like Bugatti, Pagani and Koenigsegg. 

Silk-FAW, a venture between Chinese automaker FAW and U.S.-based engineering and design firm Silk EV, has confirmed plans to build electric sports cars in Reggio Emilia, in Italy.

Reuters recently confirmed that the joint venture has pledged to invest more than $1.02 billion to build a Research and Development (R&D) center, headquarters and factory in Italy.

Last year, Silk-FAW picked the city of Reggio Emilia in Italy to build its facility. The area, known as Italy’s “Motor Valley”, is home to brands like Ferrari, Maserati, Pagani as well as Audi-Group brands, Lamborghini and motorcycle manufacturer, Ducati.





Silk-FAW venture plans to produce electric and hybrid luxury hypercars in China and in Italy under the Hongqi brand. Its first model, the plug-in hybrid Hongqi S9 hypercar, was unveiled in April 2021 at the Shanghai Auto Show.

First revealed at the 2020 Beijing motor show, the S9, dubbed as China’s answer for hypercars from brands like Bugatti, Pagani and Koenigsegg, features a body made of carbon fiber, gull-wing doors as well as a jet-fighter-inspired cockpit.
