Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Marks One Anniversary Of Surviving Helicopter Crash
Nigerian Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo today marked one year of his survival from a helicopter crash with a thanksgiving service at the Aso Villa Chapel, Abuja.
Recall that on February 2, 2019, a AgustaWestland 139 Helicopter, conveying the Vice President and some of his aides crash-landed in Kabba area of Kogi. All the 11 occupants of the crashed Helicopter, marked 5N-CML and with serial number: 31389, escaped unhurt.
Yemi Osinbajo, who was joined by his wife, family members and his aides at the Thanksgiving service on Sunday, said the incident could have thrown the country into mourning if not for God’s benevolence. He described it as “an awesome and incredible deliverance.”
According to Osinbajo,
“I think that what happened on that occasion was so amazing, so miraculous; 12 of us in a helicopter; the helicopter crashed and not one scratch on anyone of us.
“That’s just incredible. So, we can only continue to thank God and to praise the Lord Jesus Christ for an awesome deliverance of so many of us. So, we just keep thanking God.
“That’s why we are here this morning to just praise God.”
Osinbajo said the survival of all the 11 occupants of the crashed Helicopter demonstrated God’s mercy. He said the incident has strengthened his faith in God and in the Nigerian nation.
He said:
“Can you imagine a situation where you survived a helicopter crash? I think it demonstrates that God is merciful; God is awesome; he is able to do all things.
“I think it just strengthened my faith and the faith of all those who were there.”
After the crash 12 months ago, the owner and operator of the Chopper, Caverton Helicopters, attributed the crash to hazy weather conditions. The company later released another helicopter to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
