Volkswagen’s New EV Brand Scout Motors Is Almost Ready
A little later than expected, but now the time has finally come: Scout Motors will soon present its first model, the retro sequel to the International Scout.
Almost two and a half years ago, the first rumors circulated that the Volkswagen Group wanted to revive the International Scout. The German group had become the owner of the Scout name via a special route and saw the opportunity to start a new American EV brand under that name. At the end of 2022, after a few sketches, we also got a more concrete teaser of the production version, but the unveiling is still pending. It was supposed to happen this summer, but the summer is almost over and no Scout has been unveiled yet.
Now the Americans have announced that it will finally happen in the fall. On October 24, to be precise. Based on the sketches that have already been shared, we already know that there are at least two models in the pipeline: an SUV and a longer pick-up. It will probably be one story in terms of appearance, but the pick-up seems to have a longer wheelbase. Scout Motors has hired former Jeep designer Chris Benjamin for the design. So he knows how to draw an American-looking SUV. The Scout models will probably be strongly inspired by the International Scout of yesteryear.
It remains to be seen what technology is hidden under the Scouts. In any case, they will be fully electric models. There is talk of a new base intended for off-roaders, but Scout Motors may grab from the PPE bin at brands such as Porsche and Audi. The Scouts would then be related (partly or otherwise) to the Audi Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan.
