Volvo Becomes The First Automaker To Limit Its Cars’ Top Speed To 112 miles per Hour

Volvo announced on Monday that it will be limiting the top speed on all of its vehicles to 180 km/h (112 mph) in a bid to reduce traffic fatalities. The new speed limit will be implemented on all model year 2021 cars.i.e from 2020.
The electronic restriction will prevent drivers from accelerating to the top speeds of up to 155mph many Volvos can reach. This move is part of Volvo’s vision that no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car by 2020.
Volvo said:
“Volvo is a leader in safety: we always have been and we always will be”
“While a speed limitation is not a cure-all, it’s worth doing if we can even save one life”
Volvo’s new 112 mph limit will not apply to the Swedish brand’s new electric performance sub-brand, Polestar,as well as police cars.
Excessive speeding remained one of the main contributors to road deaths, along with drugs and drink intoxication and mobile phone use.
