Chinese Smartphone Maker, Xiaomi, Unveils SU7 Electric Sedan, Aims to Be Among Top 5 Automakers - autojosh

Today, Xiaomi finally announced what is arguably the most hotly anticipated EV of the year: the SU7 sedan. During the launch event, we got the full list of features, and the company unveiled three configurations, which is one more than the initial “tech launch” event back in December 2023.

We will start with the base model, which offers a 299 hp rear-mounted motor and a 73.6 kWh 486V battery, which is enough for a 700 km range on the overly optimistic CLTC standard. It can recharge 310 km of range in just 15 minutes. The starting price of this trim without the extras is RMB 215,900 (€28,000).

If you fancy a bit of extra range, the SU7 Pro boasts a 94.3 kWh battery that can go for 830 km and has the same rear motor as the standard model. This one will set you back RMB 245,900 (€31,700), which almost perfectly matches the Tesla Model 3’s pricing in China.

The SU7 Max sits on top of the range with its 871V architecture and 101 kWh battery that goes for up to 810 km per charge. The dual-motor AWD setup outputs 495 kW (673 hp), and you can recharge 510 km worth of range in 15 minutes, per Xiaomi’s estimates. This model costs RMB 299,900 (€38,700).

Xiaomi’s advanced Pilot Pro self-driving system will be available in all trims as a standard, which includes an Nvidia Orin chip, LiDAR system, and 11 cameras. Xiaomi says it’s going to launch the Pilot Pro feature in April for user testing, and in May, it will hit several Chinese cities. A complete nationwide rollout is scheduled for August of this year.

The interior has a handful of cool options to spice up the experience. A fridge, Nappa leather seats or Oeko-Tex seats, a 25-speaker Dolby Atmos-tuned setup with some speakers built into the driver’s headrest, two screens for the back seats, which are essentially repurposed Xiaomi Pad 6S Pros, and a 56-inch, adjustable HUD.

The infotainment system offers a wide variety of features and seamless integration with Xiaomi phones, but the company is welcoming Apple users as well. The car supports CarPlay and integrates iPads into the back seats.

If you place an order by April 30, you get a handful of freebies, like Nappa leather seats and a fridge compartment, for example. Actual shipments of the standard and Max SU7 variants will begin at the end of April, while the Pro version is scheduled for the end of May.
