2027 Mercedes-Benz EQS (Electric S-Class) To Launch With Yoke Steering Wheel, Steer-by-wire System
2027 Mercedes-Benz EQS (Electric S-Class) to launch with yoke-style steering wheel and Steer-by-wire system.
In steer-by-wire system, the driver’s steering requests are transmitted quickly and directly via an electrical cable, i.e. ‘by wire’.
Compared to the traditional steering control, the new system provides not only better handling and manoeuvring.

Steer-by-wire becomes reality in the new EQS
Mercedes-Benz has announced that the upcoming 2027 EQS (electric S-Class) will be available with a yoke-style steering wheel system and the new steer-by-wire technology, which provides better handling and maneuvering and allows easier parking.
In the steer‑by‑wire system, the driver’s steering requests are transmitted quickly and directly via an electrical cable, i.e. ‘by wire’,” unlike in the traditional steering, which require a mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the front wheels.

“As the first German car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz will thus offer a production vehicle with this technology,” the German brand said in a statement.

“Steer-by-wire technology elevates the driving experience to a new level and fundamentally transforms the interaction between human and vehicle. Precise, intuitive and effortless – that’s how the new generation of steering feels in the new EQS.”
While Mercedes-Benz continues to offer the traditional electromechanical steering, it explained that the completely new steer-by-wire system offers a wide range of advantages in everyday driving, including easier manoeuvring.

In addition to the superior driving feel, the flatter flatter steering wheel creates more room in the cabin, allowing a better view of the driver’s display as well making it easier for the driver to get in and out of the car easier.
According to Mercedes, the new steering wheel system – first announced in April last year – has already completed over a million test kilometres on test benches, test tracks and in overall vehicle validation in road traffic.
