Murtala Muhammed International Airport Handled 7.3m Passengers And Recorded 96,621 Aircraft Movements In 2019
Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos (MMIA) handled 7.319 million passengers and recorded 96,621 aircraft movements in 2019.
Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) is an international airport located in Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigeria.
According to Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the airport recorded 96,621 aircraft movements, and handled 7.319 million passengers and 187.49 million cargoes in 2019.
In comparison, the airport recorded 91,621 aircraft movements, and handled 6.862 million passengers and 157.62 million cargoes in 2018.
The aircraft movement in 2019 showed that the performance was 5.46 per cent higher than the movements recorded in 2018.
Cargo performance was 18.95 per cent higher, while passenger movement recorded a growth of 6.7 per cent in 2019.

Speaking on the increased growth in movement in 2019, the Manager, South-West Airports, FAAN, Victoria Shina-Aba, said the new terminal building under construction would help to provide seamless passenger facilitation when completed.
She also explained that the old terminal at the airport would be refurbished to complement the new one.
Victoria Shina-Aba said the security issues witnessed in 2019 were also being addressed by the Federal Government.
“Lessons have been learned from last year’s security challenges and measures are being taken to address the lapses,”
The airport was originally known as Lagos International Airport when it was built during World War II.
It was renamed in the mid 1970s after former Nigerian military head of state Murtala Muhammed.
The new terminal, which was modelled after Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, was opened officially on 15 March 1979.
