The QX56 features a new 5.6L VK56VD V8 engine with direct injection and VVEL variable valve timing.
The powerful engine helps give the QX an increased towing capacity of up to 8,500 lb (3,856 kg). The engine is tied to a seven-speed sequential-shift automatic transmission with an all-new 4WD system.
They are available in seven- or eight-seat configurations. Its primary competitors are the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator.
The QX56’s name was derived from its 5.6-litre V-8 engine. It was renamed QX80 for the 2014 model year.
