U.S. counter-terror officials ask Toyota how terror group ISIS got so many of its Hilux pickup trucks and SUVs.

Terror Group ISIS has acquired thousands of Toyota Hilux pickup trucks and SUVs in recent years.
To date, Toyota has no idea where ISIS got its pickup trucks and SUVs. The world’s second largest auto maker maintains it has no business dealings with the terror group.
The Japanese manufacturer is “supporting” the inquiry led by U.S. counter-terror officials that has been on since 2015.
The automaker says it will help in ensuring Western-made goods from ending up in the hands of the terror group.
The automaker’s Hiluxes and Land Cruisers have become fixtures in the terror group’s propaganda videos in Iraq, Syria and Libya.
In 2015, Toyota said in a statement that :
“We briefed Treasury (US) on Toyota’s supply chains in the Middle East and the procedures that Toyota has in place to protect supply chain integrity,”
“Toyota has a “strict policy to not sell vehicles to potential purchasers who may use or modify them for paramilitary or terrorist activities”
The terror group has acquired thousands of brand new Toyota Hilux pickup trucks and Sports Utility Vehicles in recent years. Old model Hiluxes are also part of their fleet.
The truck beds of these heavy-duty trucks are normally equipped with heavy weapons such as machine guns and rocket launchers.
The former Iraqi Ambassador to the United States also has no idea where ISIS got the vehicles from.
“This is a question we’ve been asking our neighbors”
“How could these brand new trucks… these four wheel drives, hundreds of them — where are they coming from?
Since its introduction in 1968, the Toyota Hilux has been deployed in wars and conflicts due to how resistant, fast and reliable the pickup trucks are.
The Hilux trucks have been sighted in conflicts in Libya, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Pakistan just to mention but a few.
The pickups, especially the Hilux trucks, was so dependable during the Chadian-Libyan conflict that the war was named “Toyota War”.
