Gov. Sanwo-Olu commissions 13.65 km Oshodi Abule-Egba BRT corridor, unveils 550 high and medium capacity buses.

The new BRT corridor will reduced travel time on the ever-busy road from 2 hrs to 30 mins (almost 75 percent).

Governor of Lagos state, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday commissioned the 13.65 km Oshodi-Abule Egba stretch of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor.

During the event, the Governor also unveiled 550 high and medium capacity buses that will be plying the route in the pilot phase of the scheme.

Addressing the public during the ceremony, Sanwo-Olu expressed satisfaction at the eventual completion and launch of the corridor. He blamed the delay of the take-off to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

Conceived in 2017 by the previous governor of Lagos State; Akinwunmi Ambode; the newly commissioned corridor is aimed to decongest the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the new BRT corridor will reduced travel time on the ever-busy road by almost 75 percent.

“This new BRT corridor will bring great relief to commuters who will use this facility daily. Travel time, estimated at an average of two hours during peak periods, will be significantly reduced to an average of about 30 minutes.”

“This will translate to improved health of our people; a safer environment; and increased value of socio-economic activities in our state.”

“I am also delighted to inform you of our efforts to secure the release of about 550 high and medium capacity buses which had been in the bonded warehouse to increase the stock of regulated buses in our state.”

“We will be deploying 100,000 free tickets (cards) to commuters who turn up at the bus station.”

The new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor has 14 bus stations between Abule Egba and Oshodi axis. This includes five stations facing both sides of the expressway, and nine medium terminals.
