Suspect arrested for stealing FRSC vehicle
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a suspect, Hamisu Tukur, for allegedly stealing a Hilux vehicle. The vehicle belongs to the Federal Road Safety Corps headquarters stationed at Sky Memorial, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
Police operatives from Bwari Division arrested the 25-year-old during a stop and search operation. This happened following a call from the FRSC headquarters by the command’s control room.
A statement by the FCT police spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, said other exhibits were recovered from the suspect in addition to the Toyota Hilux. They retrieved a single key from him.
The statement titled, ‘Arrest of suspected car thief,’ read in part. “The command on 5th September 2020, arrested one Hamisu Tukur ‘male’ 25 years old at the outskirt of Bwari. The police nabbed him for stealing a vehicle belonging to the FRSC headquarters stationed at Sky Memorial, Wuse Zone 5.
“The suspect will be arraigned after investigation.”
While reassuring residents of its resolve to protect lives and property, the command urged the locals to be security conscious.
The Toyota Hilux has been on for around half a century, and its reputation for go-anywhere reliability has won it friends around the world.
Security officials use Hilux vehicles these days due to their durability and speedy nature. FRSC, Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army have used the vehicle to record diverse achievements in curbing crimes in the country.
Likewise, in other countries in Africa and other parts of the world, Hilux vehicles are widely used. They are also popularly used as escort vehicles.
