1,750hp SSC Tuatara Sets New Speed Record Of 282.9 mph, Becomes “World’s Fastest Production Car”

SSC Tuatara supercar hits a two-way average speed of 282.9 mph to become “The World’s Fastest Production Car”
This new record breaks the two-way speed record of 277.9 mph (444.6 kph) set by the Koenigsegg Agera RS in 2017.
The 1,750 horsepower Tuatara’s Southbound maximum of 286.1 mph also exceeded the Agera RS’s top speed of 284.55 mph.
Last October, Washington-based automaker, SSC North America, announced its Tuatara hypercar is now officially the “World’s Fastest Production Car” after a claimed average speed of 316.11 mph over two runs.
But it wasn’t long that eagle-eyed experts discovered several inaccuracies in the onboard video, forcing the automaker to agree for a rerun. Tuatara unrecognized record means that the Koenisegg Agera RS remained the official world’s fastest production car.
Now, SSC North America has announced that a customer-owned Tuatara supercar, driven by its owner Dr. Larry Caplin, has finally achieved a new record for a production car.
The new speed record was achieved on a 2.3 miles stretch at the Johnny Bohmer Grounds at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on January 17.

1,750hp SSC Tuatara sets new speed record Of 282.9 mph, becomes “world’s fastest production car”
In addition to breaking the two-way speed record of 277. 9mph set by the Koenigsegg Agera RS in 2017, the Tuatara also exceeded the RS’s top speed of 284.55mph.
This time around, the Tuatara was equipped with multiple satellite tracking systems to avoid any validation issues. These includes two Racelogic VBox systems, a Life Racing tracking system and two Garmin systems.
Powering the Tuatara is the twin-turbo 5.9-liter V8 flat-plane crank engine that pumps outs 1,750 horsepower when fueled on E85. With 91 octane fuel, the 2,750 pounds mid-engined hypercar makes 1,350 horsepower.
The automaker plans to build just 100 copies of the SSC Tuatara supercar. Each of these supercar starts at $1.6m (₦609.6m) and maxed out at $1.9M (₦723.9million) for the fully loaded variant.
