Hyundai, Kia Recalls 550,000 Vehicles Cos Of Turn Signal That Flashes In Wrong Direction
South Korean automakers, Hyundai and Kia, recalls 550,000 vehicles cos of turn signal that can flash in the wrong direction.
Hyundai says the recall is caused by software issue, which may not properly interpreting signals.
The recall covers 2015-2017 Hyundai Sonata and 2016-2017 Sonata gas-electric hybrids.
Kia Sedona minivan from 2015 through 2017 are also affected.
Hyundai and its sub brand, Kia, are recalling more than 550,000 cars and minivans because of a software issue that can make the turn signals to flash in the opposite direction of what is intended.
The recall covers Hyundai’s Sonata midsize car from the 2015 through 2017 model years, and Sonata gas-electric hybrids from 2016 and 2017. Kia Sedona minivan from 2015 through 2017 are also affected.
Hyundai says software in a junction box may not properly interpreting signals, adding that it doesn’t know whether the problem has caused any crashes or injuries.

According to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the South Korean automaker estimates that 1% of the Sonata and Sedona models have the software problem.
Hyundai will start mailing notification letters to customers on Nov. 19, Kia owners will start receiving theirs starting Nov. 12. Affected customers will take their affected cars to dealers, where it will update the software at no cost to owners.
Since the beginning of the year 2021, Hyundai and Kia have issued 24 recalls, affecting over 2.6 million vehicles (2,680,468), according to NHTSA data.
