Police Arrest Syndicate Buying Cars With Fake Bank Alerts

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 11 criminal suspects for various crimes such as murder, kidnapping, child trafficking, armed robbery, and stealing.

Mr Abubakar Lawal, the Commissioner of Police, told journalists on Thursday at the state police headquarters that the suspects would be arrested within a month.

Odoh Tochukwu, Ifenyinwa Okonkwo, and others were among the 11 suspects.





Ogbodo Emmanuel, who were accused of being fraudsters who used fake bank alerts to steal vehicles from car dealers.

According to the commissioner, the suspects were apprehended at various locations between December 7 and 13, 2021, by police detectives assigned to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Anti-Robbery Section in response to intelligence on their criminal activities.

He said, “Preliminary investigation showed that the criminal syndicate specialised in stealing cars by fraudulently sending fake credit alerts to unsuspecting car dealers, as payment for the purchase of cars and other items within Enugu and other parts of the country.

“Six vehicles of different makes and other incriminating items were recovered from them, while further discreet investigation to arrest other members of the criminal gang at large is ongoing.”
