Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed Is Now Production Ready

Mercedes makes no secret of it; its strategy will also involve an exclusive brand called Mythos that would only offer elite vehicles. Here is the first of the bunch, the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed
Last May, on the sidelines of the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the very first model of the Mythos family, tailor-made creations that the brand with the star will develop in the years to come. This is the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, production of which will be limited to 250 units.
An exclusive silhouette without a windshield or roof so that, according to the brand, the driver and his passenger are in direct contact with the elements. For their safety, in addition to the mandatory helmeted driving, a Halo protection system from Formula 1, which has been used since 2018, keeps watch in the event of a rollover. Another borrowing, a little more subtle from this discipline, is the shark nose of the racing car fitted with 21-inch wheels, 275/35 at the front and 305/30 at the rear.
The brand evokes some references to its glorious past in the form of the double bossage behind the seats worthy of that of the famous Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR distinguished at the Mille Miglia in 1955. For the rest, we recognize, and it is quite logical, the style of the Mercedes SL and Mercedes-AMG GT serving as a matrix for this exclusive machine lacquered in a two-tone livery.
Not going unnoticed, the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed can also serve as a rolling speaker with a Burmester audio system containing no less than 15 speakers for a power of 1,170 watts. Enough to liven up the streets when you pass by. The question is whether this hi-fi can cover the vocals of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. A powerful engine with 585 hp for a torque value of 800 Nm allows, according to Mercedes, to dispatch the exercise from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and to reach a top speed of 315 km/h. A value in keeping with its name.
And so that this cavalry is controlled in all circumstances, the transmission is entrusted to the AMG Speedshift MCT 9G nine-speed automatic gearbox, and the power is transmitted to the ground via 4Matic+ technology. Four-wheel drive is therefore on the program, but also four-wheel steering for agility that tries to play on the significant weight of the machine, which despite its barquette bodywork is nothing like a ballerina.
