Nissan Confirms Today That The GT-R R35 Has Been Officially Discontinued
After 18 years, the Nissan GT-R R35 has officially ended its career. Nissan today officially confirmed the end of the road for the R35 in Japan, with the cessation of taking orders for this model.
The statement also said, “We have received many orders for the Nissan GT-R but have now completed accepting orders for the planned quantity. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all our customers for their support since its launch in 2007.”
As a reminder, production of the GT-R for North America ended in October 2024. Before that, the R35 was already out of stock in various markets due to regulatory compliance issues (safety, noise, emissions). Australia and New Zealand last saw the GT-R in October 2021, while deliveries in Europe and the UK ended in March 2022.
The GT-R R35 (also known as “Godzilla”) was unveiled at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, and over the past 18 years, it has received numerous updates, including facelifts in 2010, 2016, and 2023.
The heart of the GT-R has always been its twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine, which has seen significant improvements over its 18-year lifespan. The initial 353 kW/480 hp grew to 421 kW/573 hp after the 2023 facelift, and the Nismo version gained 447 kW/608 hp.
Nissan has already offered a glimpse of what’s to come through the 2023 Hyper Force concept. This supercar is expected to evolve into the future GT-R R36.
