Mercedes-Benz To End Production Of The EQE Sedan And SUV Variant Next Year
British media reports that Mercedes-Benz will cease production of the EQE sedan and EQE SUV in 2026 as part of a reorganization of its electric vehicle lineup.
The decision comes after internal re-evaluations of the introduction of new electric models and the subsequent overlap within the German carmaker’s range.
The EQE sedan, currently built at Mercedes’ Bremen plant in Germany, and the EQE SUV, built in Tuscaloosa, USA, will be indirectly replaced by the electric C-Class EQ and GLC EQ, both based on Mercedes’ new 800V MB.EA-M platform.
The move comes despite earlier signals that the two EQE models will receive a facelift next year amid a significant improvement to their EVA platform, which they share with the larger EQS models.
The C-Class EQ sedan, due in 2026, will bridge the gap with the EQE sedan in terms of its technology, including options such as air suspension and rear-axle steering.
The new GLC EQ, which will make its debut at this year’s Munich Motor Show, offers 570 liters of boot space and an additional 128 liters in the front boot, surpassing the EQE SUV’s 520-liter capacity. It also has a towing capacity of up to 2500 kg.
Mercedes has yet to officially confirm that production of the EQE will end in 2026, with a spokesperson saying the company has a “policy not to comment on speculation about its current and future models.” However, the same spokesperson confirmed that a successor to the EQ sedan, the electric E-Class EQ sedan, is in development and planned for a 2027 launch. It is based on the same MB.EA-M platform as the C-Class EQ and GLC EQ.
