Mercedes-Benz EQB Is Retiring, And A Replacement Will Arrive Shortly
The electric variant of the GLB-Class, known as the EQB model, had a surprisingly short lifespan. Due to its reliance on the older MFA platform, which dates back to 2011, this electric SUV is set to go out of production after the 2025 model year.
A company representative confirmed the news to the InsideEVs portal, stating that the EQB “has reached the end of its planned life cycle and will not be offered after the 2025 model year.” He further emphasized, “Mercedes-Benz remains fully committed to electrification, and the largest product offensive in the brand’s history is just around the corner.
As announced, Mercedes-Benz will also introduce two SUVs based on this new architecture. “A replacement for the EQB is coming, and it’s expected to be more expensive than the outgoing model. According to EPA estimates for the EQB, the range on a single charge ranges between 200 and 255 miles, depending on equipment such as all-wheel drive and wheel size.
Although the GLB-Class has been on the market for years, the electric EQB wasn’t introduced until the 2021 model year. It was one of only two electric models from Mercedes to offer the option of a third row of seats.
Future models, including two new SUVs, will be based on the latest MMA platform, designed for hybrid and all-electric powertrains. That architecture, already seen on the new CLA model, brings significant improvements like 800-volt technology for faster charging and an advanced operating system.
Although the exact date of the arrival of the successor is not yet known, the announcement of the shutdown of the EQB model suggests that we will not have to wait long.
