The All-new Electric Mercedes-Benz GLC Arrives With A New Grille, 713-km Of Range - autojosh

The new electric Mercedes GLC will spawn an AMG-badged top-of-the-line version next year, and it will be one of the most powerful models to ever come out of Affalterbach.

Although it is related to the electric SUV presented at the September motor show in Munich, the new AMG GLC will represent a significant technical departure from that car. It will rely heavily on the AMG.EA powertrain that was first introduced in the GT XX prototype with 1360 hp.

The SUV will use three axial-flow motors—one on the front axle and two more on the rear—to achieve power that will exceed 900 hp and is almost double the 489 hp of the standard car. This positions it as a direct rival to the future Porsche Cayenne Turbo, which should deliver up to 980 hp. When it arrives, it will be the third most powerful AMG model to date and the most powerful AMG SUV.

AMG is targeting a 0-100 km/h sprint in less than 3 seconds and a limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Key to everything is AMG’s latest battery technology. It eschews the prismatic cells used by standard versions of the GLC EQ in favor of new cylindrical cells. They are claimed to offer superior density and thermal characteristics to the prismatic cells used in a standard car.

The 800 V battery pack of AMG’s new electric SUV will also have a direct cooling system.

The flagship GLC will also adopt a simulated gearshift mode similar to that used by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and a sound simulator designed to provide the sound of the V8 engine.
