Mercedes-Benz has sold all its showrooms in Berlin to Canadian entrepreneur Kuldeep Billan (Kuldeep Billan), head of the Alfa Auto Group, reports Bild, citing business sources.

There are seven branches in the German capital, which employ around 1,500 people. Branches in Spandau and Marienfelde are among those affected.

Employees at the Berlin stores were informed of the agreement via e-mail and were offered a choice between monetary compensation or a job guarantee for just one year. After that, their current contracts would be terminated and new ones signed, writes Bild, reports Blitz.

Also, in most cases, employees are offered severance payments of up to 30,000 euros.

Sources say a staff meeting will be held, which could be crucial.

Mercedes-Benz also plans to sell dealerships in other cities – Hamburg, Munich and the Rhine-Ruhr region – which could threaten a total of 8,000 jobs.

According to well-informed sources, it remains to be seen to what extent the new owner will adhere to the wage agreement.

Bild recalls that the employees of Mercedes-Benz showrooms in Berlin tried for two years to prevent the sale, but all their efforts were unsuccessful.
