Next-Generation Ford Ranger Is In Development In Australia

Ford has confirmed that development of the next-generation Ranger is underway in Australia, with a debut expected near the end of the decade.

The next-generation Ranger is being developed in Australia, with 1,500 engineers currently working on the project. While the current model remains highly competitive following recent updates, Ford is evaluating the future of its Australian engineering hub due to rising costs, aiming to maintain its reputation for delivering class-leading vehicles.

Ford CEO Jim Farley has expressed concerns over high engineering costs in Australia, though talks with the government are underway to secure the local hub’s future. The next-generation Ranger is expected to feature a complete redesign, an improved interior with more physical controls, and potential chassis updates, while electrification remains a focus to meet emission standards.

The next-gen Ford Ranger will feature increased electrification to meet global emission standards. While the current lineup includes diesel, gas, and PHEV options, it lacks mild-hybrid or self-charging hybrid alternatives. A fully electric model is not currently a priority. Ford will likely continue its strategy of offering diverse performance and work-focused trims, with camouflaged prototypes expected to appear in Australia within the next few years.
