Stellantis Aims To Improve Its Quality “In The Top Quartile By 2028”
Stellantis, the parent company of brands such as Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo, does not have a strong reputation for quality. “That needs to change,” the CEO agrees. According to him, hard work is being done to improve the situation.
Stellantis does not really have a good reputation regarding reliability in several areas. The best-known example is perhaps the 1.2 PureTech engines, which have experienced major problems over the years. Recently, there was also trouble surrounding the on-board chargers of the group’s electric and semi-electric cars, and other electronic issues are surfacing as well. Antonio Filosa, who took over as CEO of the group last year, wants to clean up the mess. He emphasized this in an interview with Automotive News.
“We have set up nearly fifty quality-oriented ‘war rooms’, where large teams of engineers, quality specialists, production experts, and supplier quality engineers collaborate on components and systems that we know are crucial to improve,” said the 53-year-old Italian. “We are solving those problems very, very, very quickly.” Filosa is even willing to attach a more concrete goal to the intended quality improvement: “Our goal is to be among the top 25 percent in terms of quality by 2028 in all segments and markets in which we operate. And we are going to achieve that goal.”
Stellantis has already been working on the aforementioned PureTech engines and previously emphasized that the current generation is 70 percent new and therefore already clearly differs from the earlier problematic batches. Problems with earlier PureTechs were often caused by the timing belt running in oil, but nowadays the 1.2 is available with a timing chain.
