Hyundai Set To Launch 2 More EVs Called The Ioniq 4 And 7
Hyundai is rapidly expanding its electric vehicle lineup, with the Ioniq 7 SUV and a compact Ioniq 4 currently in development.
The South Korean automaker is repurposing the Ioniq 7 name for a new mid-size electric SUV positioned between the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9. It is expected to feature an 800-volt architecture with single and dual-motor options.
Given these dimensions, the vehicle may be comparable in size to the Chinese-manufactured Elexio, which we tested earlier this year. Should this prove accurate, the Ioniq 7 could potentially capture market share from the Elexio in regions where both models are available. Significantly, Hyundai’s Ioniq-branded vehicles are positioned as premium offerings, which serves to effectively differentiate them from the Elexio. Furthermore, as the Elexio utilizes a 400-volt system and front-wheel-drive configuration, the Ioniq 7 will likely offer superior powertrain performance.
Beyond the highly anticipated Ioniq 7, Hyundai is also developing a smaller electric vehicle, potentially to be badged as the Ioniq 4. While expected to be similar in scale to the new Ioniq 3 hatchback, the forthcoming model is anticipated to adopt a more conventional SUV form factor, aligning it closely with the Kia EV3.
Hyundai’s upcoming Ioniq 4 SUV will feature a boxier, more practical design than the Ioniq 3, appealing to families. It is expected to share the Ioniq 3’s powertrain, offering 42 kWh and 61 kWh battery options.
