Amid international sanctions, sales of new vehicles in Russia plunge 27 percent between January-April 2025.
Sales of cars reached 346,400 units (- 26%) while sales of domestically produced automobiles reached 219,000 units (-9%) .
Sales of new vehicles in all segments totaled 404,000 units between January – April 2025, plunging 27% year on year.
To reduce its reliance on foreign-made cars, Russia invested billions to revived its auto industry.
Last year, Russia’s largest manufacturer of passenger cars, AvtoVAZ, produced 525,000 vehicles at its assembly line.

Amid ongoing Western sanctions, Russian News Agency, TASS, says that the sales of new motor vehicles in all segments totaled 404,000 units between January and April 2025, plunging 27% year on year.
Citing a report from Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, TASS said sales of cars amounted to 346,400 units (down 26%) while the market of new domestically produced automobiles reached 219,000 units (down 9%).

During this period, sales of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) dropped by 16% to 34,000 units, by 49% to 20,000 units for trucks, and by 54% to 3,500 for buses. Also, sales of new electric vehicles was down 66% to almost 3,000 units.
In April 2025, new vehicles market lost 27% to 116,800 units, sales of cars lost 25% year on year to 101,400 units while the market of LCVs contracted by 16% on an annualized basis to about 9,800 units.

Truck sales fell by 58% annually to 4,600 while the sales of buses plunged by 52% against last April to 1,100 units, according to Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade report.
To reduce its reliance on foreign-made cars, Russia has invested billions to revived its auto industry after Western countries imposed broad-ranging sanctions following its 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Last year, Russia’s largest manufacturer of passenger cars, AvtoVAZ, which makes the Lada range, churned out over 525,000 vehicles at its assembly line.
