Antonov An-124 Aircraft Carries Massive 54-Tonne Power Generator From Ghana To India For Repairs
Antonov An-124 aircraft carries massive, faulty 54-tonne generator used for power generation, from Ghana to India for repairs, and back.
The faulty rotor, measuring 10.5m long, 3.89m wide, and 4.13m high, is used for power generation.

Antonov Airlines has safely used its specialized freighter Antonov An-124 plane to carry a 54-tonne power generator from Accra, Ghana, to Mumbai, India for urgent repairs and back to Ghana.
According to reports, the Antonov An-124 aircraft was chartered by The Heavy Lift Group (THLG), Rhenus Project Logistics USA. The freighter was chosen for the urgent ferry mission due to its massive cabin space.

The flight was chartered on short notice as the massive rotor required urgent repairs. The faulty rotor, measuring 10.5m long, 3.89m wide, and 4.13m high, is used for power generation.

Speaking about the mission, Vladyslav Ishchuk, commercial executive, Antonov Airlines, said in a statement that :
“This transport operation required well-coordinated preparation and actions from both partners to fly such outsized and heavy cargo safely,”
He added that :
“Antonov Airlines showcased its flexibility by providing the AN-124 aircraft on the required dates during an extremely busy period for the customer to minimise any disruption that could have been faced.”

Ritesh Nair, global sales director at Rhenus Project Logistics USA, also spoke about Antonov and the logistic companys’ decades-long relationship.
“Rhenus Project Logistics USA and Antonov Airlines have an association going back over 15 years, which has involved multiple charter performances for mutual clients and is a testimony to the strength and expertise members of THLG bring to their clients,”
Volga-Dnepr is the largest operator of the Ukrainian-made An-124 cargo plane with a fleet of 12 aircraft.
