Armored BMW 7 Series Protection (G73) Fitted With Customized “BMW G73” Plate Spotted In Lagos - autojosh

A heavily armored BMW 7 Series Protection (G73) ultra-luxury sedan specially built at the BMW Group Plant in Dingolfing was recently spotted cruising in Lagos, amid rising insecurity in the country.

While maintaining a similar appearance to the standard 7 Series, this 7 Series-based “Protection Vehicle” fitted with customized “BMW G73” number plate offers customised protection from attacks with firearms or explosives for at-risk individuals.

The armored BMW G73 features a VR9 protection rating, with a core of 10mm armored steel integrated into the body and a 72mm thick windows that protects against fire from calibre 7.62×54 R ammunition.

Also seen on this BMW 7 Series Protection (G73) is a Blue beacons and flashing lights on the kidney grill and on the mirror, which are part of a wide range of protection equipments optionally available for the exterior.

It rides on specialized PAX tyres with a runflat inner ring system that allows the BMW 7 Protection to be driven to a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph) and at up to 80 km/h (50 mph) even with burst tyres.

Powering the BMW 7 Protection is a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 engine, which produces 530 horsepower and allows the around 4.6 tons bunker-on-wheels to reach 100 km/h from rest in 6.6 seconds.

Armored BMW 7 Series Protection (G73) made its debut at the IAA Mobility 2023 International Motor Show in Munich alongside the electric BMW i7 Protection, with customer deliveries starting from December 2023.

Due to the armoring, the new electric variant, the BMW i7 Protection, will be able to sprint to 62 mph from rest in 9.0 seconds (versus ICE-powered variant’s 6.6 seconds), while top speed is electronically limited to 160 km/h (99 mph).

“In combination with elevated driving skills speed can be the decisive survival factor when it counts. Thanks to its reduced weight, together with the latest generation of BMW engines (V8), the performance of the BMW 7 Protection sets new standards in its class,” BMW said.
