BMW Builds Its Six Millionth Vehicle In China
Six million. BMW’s Chinese partnership, BMW Brilliance Automotive, has already built many cars in China. To indicate the production pace, the last million units were built in fifteen months.
A frozen, pure grey-coloured BMW i5 recently rolled off the production line at BMW’s Plant Dadong factory in China. That electric sedan, which is a size larger in China than ours, was the six millionth car that BMW Brilliance Automotive has produced in China. That partnership was founded in 2003, 21 years ago. The joint venture only needed fifteen months to produce the last million cars.
As in several other BMW factories, the brand is also preparing for the arrival of its new range of electric Neue Klasse models in China. In Shenyang, China, BMW is busy setting up a factory where it will assemble batteries for the Neue Klasse models. This involves an investment of €1.3 billion. The first Neue Klasse cars will arrive in 2025, although the first examples built by BMW Brilliance Automotive will not come off the production line until 2026.
