BMW Group Builds Millionth Electric Car As 2024 Goes Off In A Good Start
Proud heads at the BMW Group conference tables. It delivered its millionth fully electric car in the past quarter.
BMW Group reports that it delivered a total of 594,671 vehicles in the first quarter of this year. Vehicles indeed, not just cars. BMW Motorrad – the motorcycle branch of BMW – also falls under the BMW Group and the numbers that that company sells are also included in the figures. If we look purely at the car brands of the BMW Group, we see that BMW is – of course – the largest player in the group with 531,039 cars delivered. BMW delivered 2.5 percent more cars than in the first quarter of 2023. Of those more than 530,000 cars, more than 48,000 were an M model, 3.6 percent more than in the same period last year. Mini delivered 122,616 cars in the first quarter, 9.4 percent less than in the same period last year.
In total, the BMW Group delivered 82,700 fully electric cars, just under 28 percent more than in the same period last year. Of those almost 83,000 EVs, it was not entirely surprising that the majority were BMWs. 78,691 pieces, to be precise. That was 40.6 percent more than in the first quarter of 2023. The remaining cars were a Mini or – yes – a Rolls-Royce. Since the delivery of its very first electric car, the BMW Group has now delivered 1 million EVs, it proudly reports. The group does not report exactly how this fleet of 1 million cars is structured. Naturally, the lion’s share will be a BMW. Rolls-Royce has only recently supplied an EV and although Mini has been active in the EV field for some time, the brand’s EV offering has been very small to date.
