BMW CEO Declared Auto Industry’s World Person Of The Year
The CEO of BMW AG, Oliver Zipse, has been declared the World Person of the Year in the automotive industry in 2026 as part of the World Car Awards. The prestigious award was decided by an international jury of 98 automotive journalists from 33 countries and is awarded to an individual who had the greatest influence on the global automotive industry in the past year.
Zipse has been at the helm of BMW since 2019, and the recognition comes at a time of profound transformation in the sector. Instead of a sudden turn exclusively towards electric vehicles, under his leadership, BMW implements a strategy of technological openness—developing electric models, plug-in hybrids, and efficient classic drives in parallel and adapting to the needs of different markets.
The Neue Klasse project was particularly highlighted, a new generation of electric vehicles and digital architecture that should define the future of the brand. With the technological breakthrough, BMW has maintained financial stability and competitiveness, which was one of the key reasons for the jury’s decision.
The award is presented as part of the World Car of the Year (WCOTY) and is considered one of the most prestigious individual accolades in the automotive industry because it recognizes not only products but also the vision and strategic leadership that shape the direction of the entire sector.
