Car owner escapes from inside BYD Electric Vehicle (EV) after catching fire while charging at a station.
The fire was likely caused by a short circuit of the vehicle’s electrical wires, according an expert.
Authorities urged to better educate car owners about Electric Vehicle (EV) safety risks.
A woman reportedly escaped injured after her electric vehicle (EV) from Chinese car brand, BYD, caught fire while charging at station in Hong Kong on Thursday night.
The 53-year-old woman was inside the vehicle when the incident happened, ‘prompting an expert to urge authorities to better educate car owners about EV safety risks’, SCMP News reports.
No casualties were reported in the incident. Photos taken at the scene show the BYD car’s charred bonnet and damaged tyre, with the charging cable left connected to vehicle
The fire was likely caused by a short circuit of the vehicle’s electrical wires, according Polytechnic University’s Professor Eric Cheng.
“She heard a loud bang about 15 minutes later, which appeared to be an explosion, and immediately jumped out of her car and called police for help,” a source said.
