Ember Months : LASDRI Advises Drivers To Be Safety Conscious
Ember months and beyond: Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) advises drivers to be safety conscious.
Said that first-line drivers must attend driving schools to gain adequate knowledge about driving rules and regulations.

The Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) has advised the motoring public to be safety conscious while commuting on Lagos roads during and beyond the ember months’ period, adding that first-line drivers must attend driving schools to gain adequate knowledge about driving rules and regulations.
The General Manager of LASDRI, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, gave the advice while speaking on, “Owuro Lawa”, a Yoruba programme aired on Lagos Television (LTV), where she spoke on safety tips to adhere to in order to prevent road mishaps during the period.
According to Tiamiyu :
“Contrary to popular beliefs, embers months are just like every other month of the year but because people are always rushing to meet their set targets for the year during the period, road crashes are usually rampant”.
“The bulk of the blame on road accidents should be attributed to the drivers as some of them are just ordinary ‘vehicle movers’ who are not so knowledgeable about the rules and regulations of driving”, she added.
The LASDRI boss disclosed that the majority of the drivers usually blame the ember months for road mishaps whereas some of their attitudes are impatience, drunk driving and over-speeding.
While enjoining drivers to master the nature of the roads they are plying and avoid overspeeding to prevent accidents, she noted that employers of drivers also have a role to play as they need to always properly screen drivers before employing them.
She also implored the drivers to ensure the proper maintenance of their vehicles as and when due to avert danger, adding that they must regularly take their vehicles to Lagos Computerised Vehicle Inspection Service (LACVIS) for roadworthiness inspection.
Tiamiyu also enjoined all professional drivers to update their driving skills at the institute’s yearly recertification exercise as LASDRI now has a service platform that exposes all trainees to various road signs interpretations, eye screening service, right of way and basic auto mechanic trainee needs.
