From 2023, Grand Prix Of Formula One Will Be Held In Las Vegas
Formula One will host a third race in the United States in 2023, after organizers opted to hold a race in Las Vegas.
The race will take place in November on a Saturday evening. It will travel 50 laps on a 3.8-mile circuit with three main straights and 14 turns, passing by some of the city’s most prominent landmarks, casinos, and hotels.
Las Vegas is the most recent addition to the Formula One calendar in the United States. It will join Austin, which has been on the calendar since 2012, and Miami, which will debut in May of this year.
The addition of a third race in the United States “highlights the immense enthusiasm and excitement for Formula 1 in the United States as the sport continues to build its global fan base,” according to F1.
“This is a great moment for Formula 1 that demonstrates the huge appeal and expansion of our sport with a third event in the United States,” stated Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of F1.
“Las Vegas is a world-renowned destination for its thrills, hospitality, and, of course, the world-famous Strip. There is no better venue for Formula 1 to race than the world’s entertainment capital, and we can’t wait to be back here next year.”
The last time a grand prix was held in Las Vegas was in 1982, when the parking lot of the famed Caesars Palace casino were converted into a 2.2-mile circuit.
The addition of Las Vegas brings the total number of F1 races to 23. The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Formula One teams have agreed to hold up to 24 races each year under the current Concorde Agreement.
There is yet to be an agreement on a 24th race, however South Africa has been mentioned as a possible destination.
