Gov. Sanwo-Olu Unveils Hyundai Kona EV, Nigeria’s First Electric Car
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu unveils the Hyundai Kona EV, the first electric car to be locally assembled in Nigeria.
The Kona comes with a 5 years of battery warranty and 5 years of vehicle warranty. It has starting price of N24 million.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday November 13th, 2020, unveiled the Hyundai Kona EV, the first locally-assembled electric car into the Nigerian market.
The award-winning car was launched at the Stallion-VON Automobiles Nig. LTD, at Ojo, Lagos. This is the site where the vehicle was built.
Speaking during the unveiling, Gov. Sanwo-Olu commended Stallion Group for the noble initiative. He said his administration will make provisions for electricity charging points across the state to make it easier for motorists to recharge their battery-powered vehicles.
Also speaking at the event, managing director, VON Automobiles, Mr Rohtagi Manish, said that the lifestyle-oriented car comes with 5 years of battery warranty and 5 years of vehicle warranty. He added that the vehicle will have a starting price of N24 million.
While listing the features of the new Kona, he explained that crossover SUV will change things positively in the Nigerian auto market.
According to Mr Gaurav Vashisht who is the Head, Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motors:
“Its power-packed performance will provide a thrilling driving experience with high acceleration over long distances. The driving range for Kona Electric is 482 km with an acceleration of (0-100kms) in 9.7 secs.
“The ease of charging is unmatched. One can even plug it in at home or at work and charge it for 9.35 hrs for a full battery capacity. Hyundai Kona comes with 5 years of battery warranty and 5 years of vehicle warranty.
“KONA Electric will change the way people think about going electric. It would make history as the first EV in Nigeria with local manufacturing.”
