Hakainde Hichilema May Ride In Armoured Mercedes S-Class As He is Sworn In As New Zambian President
New Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema may use armoured Mercedes-Benz S-Class as his official car after being sworn in on Tuesday.
Hakainde was sworn in as the 7th President of Zambia after pulling off a stunning rare victory for an African opposition leader.
He won the 2021 presidential election with over 59% of the vote, defeating president Edgar Lungu, who had been in office since 2015.
Zambian businessman and politician, Hakainde Hichilema, was sworn into office on Tuesday morning at a ceremony attended by several African leaders such as Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Malawi leader Lazarus Chakwera and former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo.
59 year old Hakainde arrived in style at the ceremony in a bulletproof SUV as he was sworn in as the 7th President of Zambia following the defeat of president Edgar Lungu, who had been in office since 25 January 2015.
Hakainde pulled off a stunning rare victory for an African opposition leader by winning the 2021 presidential election with over 59% of the vote, after having contested and lost five previous elections in 2006, 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2016.
In a tweet ahead of today’s ceremony, Hichilema called Tuesday “a new dawn in Zambia,”
He added that : “As I sit here in our vehicle being driven to Heroes Stadium, I see the love, the joy and the jubilation as people line the streets on our way. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. I love you all so much”
As the new Zambian leader, Hakainde Hichilema may opt to ride in a armoured Mercedes-Benz S-Class, a luxury sedan used by his immediate predecessor, Edgar Lungu, as his official car.
