One-off Hartge F1 : This 1988 Mercedes 300E W124 With BMW M88 Engine Is Up For Sale
The one-off Hartge F1 car, a Mercedes 300E W124 powered by in-line six-cylinder BMW M88 engine, is up for sale.
So if you have always wanted to drive a car from the collaboration of the two German auto-giants, now is your chance.
Engine swaps are very common but this one-off 1988 Mercedes 300E W124 with an engine from its biggest rival “BMW” is one of the most contentious we have ever seen.
Known as the Hartge F1, this creation by tuner, Hartge, started life with the original Mercedes 3-liter naturally aspirated engine with 177 hp and 255 Nm.
To improve its performance, Hartge mounted the 300E with the iconic BMW M88 6-cylinder in-line engine from the BMW M635 CSI (E24).
This engine produces 325 hp and 350 Nm due to the increase in displacement from 3,435 cc to 3,535 cc and the higher compression ratio.
The tuner replaced the 5-speed Mercedes manual transmission with a 5-speed manual BMW transmission.

Other upgrades includes new wheels, brakes, bushings and a Bilstein sports suspension to help turn the Hartge F1 into a properly capable performance saloon.
The new creation can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 6 seconds, just like the famous Mercedes 500E with 5-liter V8 engine that develops the same power.
The Hartge F1 combines the elegance of the interior of a Mercedes with the dynamics of a BMW.
This particular car has now come up for auction with RM Sotheby’s.
So if you have always wanted to drive a car from the collaboration of the two German auto-giants, now is your chance.
Remember that the Hartge BMW-engine powered Mercedes 300E won’t come cheap due to its exclusivity and originality.
