Heavy-duty trucks, articulated vehicles barred from using Second Niger Bridge at Yuletide, says Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Says that new bridge would only be opened to motorists and other road users from December 15, 2022 to January 15, 2023.

From Dec. 15, 2022, to Jan. 1, 2023, the new bridge will be open only to motorists coming from the west to the east, through Asaba.

From Jan. 2 to Jan. 15, 2023, only vehicles coming from the east to the west will be allowed to use the new bridge.





FRSC appeals to road users to avoid over-speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced that heavy-duty trucks and articulated vehicles will not be allowed to ply the Second Niger Bridge between Asaba and Onitsha, Anambra, when it opens for temporary use on December 15 for the Yuletide.

The Anambra State Sector Commander, FRSC, Adeoye Irelewuyi in a statement on Friday, said that the bridge would only be opened to motorists and other road users from December 15, 2022 to January 15, 2023.

“From December 15, 2022, to January 1, 2023, the new bridge will be open only to motorists and other road users, coming from the west to the east, through Asaba.





“From January 2 to January 15, 2023, only vehicles coming from the east to the west will be allowed to use the new bridge.

“Heavy-duty trucks and articulated vehicles will not be allowed on the bridge during this period.”

The Anambra sector commander urged public members to cooperate with all traffic managers to ensure the free traffic flow during the period.

“FRSC Anambra is collaborating with relevant agencies to ensure that the gridlock usually experienced at the bridge around this time of the year is completely eradicated.

“We also appeal to road users to avoid over-speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs,” he added.
