A Nigerian motorist has called on Lagos State authorities to explain why she was charged ₦100,000 to tow her Lexus SUV from Oyemekun, Ogba, to Alausa after it was allegedly impounded for causing a traffic obstruction on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

The motorist shared her complaint on the “Need To Acquire A Property?” Facebook account, questioning the amount charged by Vanguard Towing Ventures to move her vehicle over what she described as a relatively short distance.

She said she had no objection to paying the prescribed ₦25,000 fine for the alleged traffic offence. According to her, the amount was paid into the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation’s account as required.

The motorist also shared a list of receipts showing payments made to the state government. However, she questioned why she was charged an additional ₦100,000 for towing, despite her vehicle being in working condition.

“My vehicle is a functional Lexus SUV. It was not faulty or broken down,” she wrote, expressing concern over the cost of transporting it from Ogba to Alausa.

She further questioned whether the towing charge was an officially approved rate, asking: “Is this the officially approved towing rate, and where is the tariff published?” She also shared a receipt for the additional ₦100,000 payment as evidence of the transaction.

Calling on Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation Seun Osiyemi and the ministry to investigate the matter, she described the charge as unreasonable and raised concerns about possible extortion. However, no official response to her specific allegation has been established.

The complaint has renewed questions about towing charges imposed on motorists during traffic enforcement operations in Lagos. The Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 lists a ₦10,000 towing fee for impounded cars, jeeps and minibuses, although the circumstances of this case and the applicable charges require clarification.
