Livestock Ministry : NRC Acquires Wagons Ahead Of Start Of Transportation Of Cattle By Rail

Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) acquires wagons ahead of start of transportation of cattle by rail from North.
NRC MD, Fidet Okhiria, disclosed that the transportation of cows and goods would resume via the Warri-Itakpe route.
Announcement comes 24 hours after President Tinubu announced the creation of a new ministry for livestock development.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on Wednesday July 10th (today) announced plans to resume the movement of cattles from the North to the Southern part of Nigeria through rail.
Fidet Okhiria, the NRC Managing Director, who disclosed this on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief breakfast show, said the transportation of cows and goods would resume via the Warri-Itakpe route.
Okhiria also disclosed that the NRC will bring in 15 wagons for the transportation of livestock, which he said are currently being assembled at the Kajola facility in Oyo State.
“We’ve built 15 wagons for livestock, and maybe in the next month or two months, they would be deployed from Itakpe to Warri to drive the economy,” he stated.
He noted that investments in railways should prioritise the social and economic well-being of the people rather than solely focusing on generating profits.
“You are not developing transportation because you want to make a profit in terms of naira and kobo, but the profit will come indirectly if we can move goods and link cities,” he said.
The move to resume the movement of cattle through rail comes barely 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu announced the creation of a new ministry for livestock development.
