Nissan’s Woes Continues In The Global Market
Things haven’t exactly been going fantastically for Nissan for years. Unfortunately for the brand, things aren’t getting any better. In fact, they are doing even worse than last year.
Nissan has been in a slump for years. Sales are disappointing, and as a result, the financial results are certainly nothing to write home about. In 2019, Nissan sold 5.18 million cars and light commercial vehicles worldwide. That number had dropped to just 3.2 million by 2025. This year, Nissan appears to be plunging even further. In fact, the first half of 2026 ended even worse than the first half of 2025.
Worldwide, Nissan sold 1,506,052 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the first six months of this year. That was no less than 6.7 percent fewer than the 1,613,798 units Nissan sold in the first half of 2025. That, in turn, was 5.7 percent fewer than in the first half of 2024. In other words, the downward trend continues and is plunging more sharply.
In Europe, Nissan sold 12.4 percent fewer cars in the first half of this year than in the first half of 2025. In China, Nissan recorded an even greater sales decline of 15 percent over the same period. It is not all doom and gloom, however; in its home country of Japan, Nissan sold 13 percent more kei cars. 97,962 units, to be precise.
