Russian’s Aurus Factory Has Been Shut Down With Workers Sent Home
Since the beginning of February, the production of Aurus luxury cars in Yelabuga has been completely stopped, according to the Telegram channel “Russian Car.” According to the schedule, the company will not resume operations until at least April 2026.
The official reason is the inventory, and the workers were sent on vacation with two-thirds of their salary.
What is behind the two-month inventory (which can be carried out in seven days) is currently unclear.
It is either a lack of demand for Aurus or a long-term ‘rebranding.’ Namely, the first cars of the ‘new generation’ should be assembled in the first half of this year, and in order to comply with this plan, several bodies have already been put on the production lines, but so far, not a single serial car has been produced.
Speculations suggest that the line is being prepared for the updated Senat model, which debuted in 2024, but others say that one of the problems is the build quality, which can hardly be matched with the price, which reaches half a million euros. Even Kim Jong Un, who was reportedly given an Aurus as a diplomatic gesture, has returned to a Mercedes-Maybach. It is also possible that the Russian manufacturer faced a shortage of chips of Western origin. Also, it should be noted that outside the Russian borders, interest in the brand practically does not exist.
Aurus has not yet commented on this information.
It was previously announced that the production of the Aurus will be cut in half to 60 cars in 2026. Production in 2025 took place in small series, and the official number of vehicles sold was extremely small. On average, no more than two to three cars were sold per month.
At the same time, several dozen Senat limousines accumulated in the factory in various stages of completion, according to the media.
