Russia’s top carmaker AvtoVAZ on June 8 resumed production of its best-selling Lada Granta model, with the first LADA Granta Classic cars of 2022 model year rolling off the assembly line.
The company partially halted production in March due to a shortage of different vehicle components because of Western sanctions on Moscow.
According to the AvtoVAZ, the new models features components developed locally to avoid the impact of imported components’ shortage.
President of “AvtoVAZ”, Maksim Sokolov, said :
“Today, after a long stop, AvtoVAZ resumed car production. Ensuring the personnel employment of the car plant is one of the top priorities we have.
“And, of course, we have to further produce the most popular and affordable cars of the Russian market, which do not depend on the imported components’ shortage.
“To do this, the company jointly with federal and regional authorities are actively involved in the development of competencies of Russian suppliers”
Lada, with a total of 22,378 deliveries, was the best-selling car brand in Russia in February this year, down 20.8 percent compared to the same month last year.
