Top-Selling Skoda Models To Get Hybrid Technology

Skoda is working to keep its cars with internal combustion engines “fresh” for customers who don’t yet feel the need for electric vehicles.
The brand plans to add hybrid powertrains to more of its best-selling models, including the Octavia, Fabia, and Kamiq.
In an interview with Auto Express, Škoda’s head of technical development, Johan Neft, explained that the new Octavia will receive a completely new hybrid system that will be introduced later this year in the second-generation Volkswagen T-Roc model and should also be found in the next-generation Karoq.
This combination combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor, which can ensure pure electric driving in city traffic. The full hybrid version of the new T-Roc emits just 100 g/km of CO₂ and is 15 percent more efficient than the equivalent mild hybrid.
Head of sales and marketing Martin Jan confirmed that the Octavia will once again be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It will probably be the same as the Škoda Superb iV wagon and Kodiaq iV.
The hybrid powertrain will also be found in Skoda’s smaller gasoline-powered cars, namely the supermini Fabia, the compact SUV Kamiq, and the family hatchback Scala. Last year, the trio accounted for almost a third of the brand’s worldwide sales but was due to be phased out by 2027 due to stricter emissions regulations. However, it will now remain on the market after 2030.
The new hybrid technology is likely to be added at the same time as the three models receive some design and specification improvements.
Auto Express recently revealed that Volkswagen is developing new hybrid powertrains for the Polo supermini, including mild hybrid and full hybrid setups, and these are the ones that will find their way into Skoda’s trio of small cars.
This sharing of hybrid technology is possible because all of the cars listed are based on versions of the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform.
