Toyota Announces The rapid installation of the first battery with a solid electrolyte in an electric vehicle

For more than 10 years, Toyota has been promising the introduction of a solid-state battery, that is, a battery with a solid electrolyte. Now, for the sixth time, the Japanese manufacturer claims that it will soon present a car with innovative batteries.

– Technology is considered very important for the future—Keiji Kaita, president of Toyota’s Carbon Neutral Engineering Development Center.

Scientist Daniel Brandell from Uppsala University notes that since 2014, Toyota has repeatedly announced plans to launch vehicles with solid-state batteries every two years. Now, 11 years later, the launch seems imminent. The company plans to equip a production car with these batteries by 2027, promising a range of up to 1,200 kilometers. In a recent interview at the Tokyo Motor Show, Keiji Kaita stated that Toyota is unlikely to delay the launch this time.

Toyota claims that the solid-state battery will triple the range and be four times more durable than today’s electric car batteries. Keiji Kaita, however, did not want to reveal which car would be the first to be equipped with the new battery.

Toyota’s chief technology officer, Hiroki Nakajima, previously said that solid-state batteries could be integrated into Toyota’s current electric car.
