Toyota Recalls Over 160,000 Sienna Minivans Over 3rd Row Seat Bolts

Toyota blamed the recall condition on a supplier called Toyota Boshoku Indiana. The subject third-row seatbacks are improperly bolted to recliner plates on each side, a condition that may increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash. The Japanese automaker says that the subject minivans fail to comply with the requirements of three federal motor vehicle standard standards.
In December 2024, a routine inspection at the Princeton facility found low bolt torque on the third-row seat assembly’s seatback-to-recliner plate, prompting an investigation by Toyota and the supplier that concluded in February 2025.
Dealers have been instructed to check the bolt torque on all potentially affected Siennas. If necessary, the bolts will be retorqued at no charge to the customers. Toyota hasn’t received any field reports or warranty claims related to the described condition.
Owner notification letters are to be mailed by April 14, 2025. More concerned owners may take matters into their own hands by checking the 17-character VIN on Toyota’s consumer website. Being produced in the United States of America, the Toyota Sienna’s vehicle identification number starts with 5.
