Toyota’s EV Fake Manual Could Be Too Real
Toyota has submitted a new patent application that will make an electric car a tool for evaluating a driver’s abilities.
The system covered by the invention replicates an engine stall in an electric vehicle that is powered by combustion. The patent, which Toyota filed in January, was initially discovered by CarBuzz and published at the end of May.
The “control system” functions in tandem with a simulated manual gearbox that has a shifting mechanism and a clutch pedal. The carmaker is already working on it.
The car stops the motor and applies the brakes to simulate a stall if the driver drives the vehicle in an “unfavourable” manner, such as choosing the incorrect gear at the wrong engine speed. Additionally, it replicates the jarring, jerky motion that drivers encounter in a traditional car.
Additionally, the system will be able to assess your level of expertise and implement the necessary safety measures as necessary. Hyundai’s phoney gearshifts for the Ioniq 5 N, which can mimic hitting an rpm limiter in manual mode, seem to have evolved into Toyota’s latest patent.
