“TRD 4X4” Lettering Lands Toyota Tacoma Owner In Trouble As Lagos Police Demand Advert Permit
The factory-applied, high-performance “TRD 4X4 SPORT” lettering on a Toyota Tacoma nearly lands a pickup truck owner in trouble after an allegedly uninformed police officer with the Lagos State Taskforce demanded an advert permit.
In what the owner thought was a routine stop-and-search operation, the motorist said a police officer demanded an advert permit normally issued by the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) for mobile adverts or branded vehicles.
“So, why is Lagos Task Force people stopping me to ask me for permit of the “TRD 4×4 Sport Tacoma” written on a Tacoma TRD 4×4 Sport 🤦🏿♂️?,” the shocked motorist wrote after police demanded an advert permit for the factory-applied lettering on the high-performance Toyota truck.
“My mouth almost tore apart when I was explaining to them that it isn’t an advert. They then started threatening to spoil my car. I was even already in a bad mode. Education no be scam!,” he noted in a caption accompanying a video shared on Jay Scotch Autos.
TRD 4×4
For those wanting to know what TRD stands for, the three letters stand for Toyota Racing Development, the performance division responsible for engineering and developing Toyota’s high-performance vehicles.
Also, TRD 4×4 means that the Tacoma is equipped with Toyota Racing Development hardware and a four-wheel-drive (4×4) system. Depending on the specific TRD package, this can include performance-tuned suspension, upgraded exhaust components and skid plates, among other features, while maintaining the reliability Toyota is known for.
The TRD trims available on the Toyota Tacoma include the TRD PreRunner, TRD SPORT, TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro, with power coming from turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engines, including Toyota’s i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain in the range-topping TRD Pro.
