E-HS9 was styled by ex-Rolls-Royce design boss Giles Taylor, who designed the Phantom 8 before joining the FAW Group.

Giles currently serves as the Global Vice President of Design and Chief Creative Officer for the FAW Group.

Two Hongqi E-HS9s, the flagship luxury SUVs from FAW Group’s Hongqi brand, recently turned heads on Nigerian roads. This comes as more wealthy Nigerians opt for Chinese-made vehicles, which continue to grow their dominance in the local market.

These sightings, alongside models from Denza, Chery, and Dongfeng, highlight the shift from traditional European luxury brands to Chinese ones, a change fueled by a desire for vehicles with premium cabins, superior smart technology, and tested performance.

The E-HS9 was styled by former Rolls-Royce design boss Giles Taylor, who designed the Phantom VII before joining the FAW Group. Giles currently serves as the Global Vice President of Design and Chief Creative Officer for the FAW Group.

Featuring an external design inspired by the Cullinan—Rolls-Royce’s ‘world’s most luxurious sports utility vehicle’—this large SUV aims to attract customers away from Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Mercedes-Benz.

The Hongqi E-HS9’s exterior features a distinctive chrome vertical-slat grille, a hood-mounted emblem, slim LED headlights, an extended roofline that flows into sharp and an available 21- and 22-inch wheels.

Its Rolls-Royce-inspired cabin features premium Nappa leather, diamond-quilted seating, up to six smart screens, a panoramic glass roof, and heated/ventilated executive captain’s chairs.

The off-road vehicle is available in three trims: Comfort, Executive, and Luxury. The top-spec trim features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup that delivers a combined 551 hp (405 kW) and 750 Nm of torque.

This setup allows for a 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) sprint time of 4.9 seconds. Depending on the trim level, the available battery pack offers an estimated WLTP range of between 380 kilometers (236 miles) and 515 kilometers (320 miles).
