Uber Places An Order For 20,000 Lucid Gravity Self-Driving Taxis

A nice boost for Lucid Motors: Uber has ordered no fewer than 20,000 Lucid Gravity vehicles to use as self-driving taxis.
Lucid Motors could use a boost, and it’s coming in the form of a mega-order from ride-hailing company Uber. Uber has ordered a whopping 20,000 Lucid Gravity vehicles for use as self-driving taxis. The order could even go up. Uber is investing “several hundred million dollars” in Lucid Motors and Nuro for this project. Nuro is developing the technology needed to enable Level 4 autonomous driving.
The first autonomous Gravity vehicles are expected to be operating as Uber taxis in “a major city in the United States” as early as next year. The approximately 20,000 vehicles will be deployed over six years. Las Vegas could very well be the first to do so. Nuro is already working with a prototype of a self-driving Lucid Gravity there, albeit still in a closed-off area. Incidentally, Nuro is based in San Francisco, where Waymo has had a self-driving taxi presence for years.
